Keyword Ranking API Pricing: 8 Vendors per 1,000 Queries

Eight keyword ranking APIs normalised to one number: cost per 1,000 queries, measured from their own published tiers on 2026-09-04, plus which have no monthly minimum.

A keyword ranking API costs between $0.20 and $15.00 per 1,000 queries, a 75× spread for data that is broadly the same. We normalised the entry tier of eight vendors to one number on 2026-09-04. The spread is not about data quality — it is about whether you pay a monthly minimum, and about how many search engines you get for the money.

What does a keyword ranking API cost per 1,000 queries?

Vendors publish monthly plans with included credits, which makes them impossible to compare directly. Dividing plan price by included volume gives one comparable figure. Every number below was read from the vendor’s own pricing page on 2026-09-04; the arithmetic is ours.

VendorEntry tierIncludedPer 1,000Monthly minimum
ScrapingDog LITE$40 / mo200,000 requests$0.20$40
Searlopay per query3,000 free credits$0.30none
HasData Google SERP APIpay per request$0.83
Zenserp Small$49.99 / mo25,000 searches$2.00$49.99
AgentX All Web Searchpay per event$2.00none
ScaleSERP 10k$66 / mo (annual)10,000 searches$6.60$66
SerpWow Starter$125 / mo (annual)10,000 credits$12.50$125
SerpApi Developer$75 / mo5,000 searches$15.00$75

Two things fall out of that table immediately.

The cheap end is a subscription, not a price. ScrapingDog’s $0.20 assumes you consume all 200,000 requests every month. Run 5,000 queries on that plan and you paid $8.00 per 1,000. The per-1,000 column is only honest at full utilisation, which is exactly the assumption vendors want you to make.

Only three of the eight let you spend nothing in a slow month. Searlo, HasData and the AgentX Actor bill per query or per event. The other five charge $40 to $125 before the first request.

Not verified here: DataForSEO, SE Ranking and Keyword.com render their pricing in JavaScript and returned no figures to a plain fetch on 2026-09-04. They are absent from the table rather than estimated.

How is keyword ranking priced?

Per query, almost universally — one keyword, on one engine, in one location, on one device, is one billable unit. That is why a 500-keyword daily tracker is 15,000 queries a month before you check a single competitor, and why “how many keywords” is the wrong first question. The right one is how many keyword × engine × location combinations you actually need.

The pricing model matters more than the unit price for most teams. A subscription is cheaper per query and more expensive per project when usage is spiky: research bursts, one-off audits, a migration check. Per-event billing inverts that.

Which engines does each API cover?

We verified engine coverage for one API only — our own — because coverage claims on vendor pages were not testable from the pricing pages we read. The All Web Search Scraper accepts a platforms array with ten values, read from its live input schema on 2026-09-04:

google · bing · baidu · yandex · naver · sogou_weixin · seznam · so360 · duckduckgo · brave

Each row carries a position integer alongside title, url, snippet, source_name, is_ad and the page’s own markdown and word_count — 13 fields per result. The keyword goes to every selected platform exactly as typed, with no platform-specific syntax added, so the same phrase is measured the same way across engines.

That matters if your market is not Anglophone. Rank on Baidu, Yandex, Naver or Sogou is a different question from rank on Google, and a Google-shaped tool answers it by not answering it.

Check the vendor’s own engine list before buying. We are naming ours because we can verify it; we are not claiming the others lack coverage.

Can I check rankings for many keywords?

Yes, and the cost is linear, which is the part that surprises people. At the prices above, tracking 500 keywords once a day for a month costs:

Vendor15,000 queries / month
ScrapingDog LITE$40.00 (plan minimum; 185,000 requests unused)
Searlo$4.50
HasData Google SERP API$12.45
Zenserp Small$49.99 (plan minimum; 10,000 searches unused)
AgentX All Web Search$30.01
SerpApi Developer$225.00 (3 × Developer plan)

The subscription vendors are cheapest only if your real volume sits near the plan ceiling. Below it you are buying headroom.

Does it support local keyword rankings?

Location is a parameter on every API in this category, but the local pack is a separate index with its own ranking behaviour. If the question is “which businesses appear for this category in this city, and what do their listings look like”, that is a places query rather than a keyword query — the Google Maps business search returns each matching business as a 25-field row with name, address, phone, hours and rating. Treating local visibility as a rank-tracking problem is a common and expensive mismatch.

When rank data is the wrong purchase

Two things get called a “keyword API” and they are not substitutes. One tells you where a page sits for a term. The other tells you whether anyone searches the term at all.

Rank data is retrospective and site-specific: it tells you how you are doing, not whether the term was worth doing anything about. A keyword you hold position one for and nobody searches produces exactly zero. Teams routinely buy rank tracking when the question was demand, discover the mismatch a month into the build, and blame the vendor.

Demand questions. Which of these five product names do people search for. Is this category growing or fading. Which countries show the most interest. Does this term peak seasonally.

Rank questions. Did our page move after the rewrite. Which competitor holds position three. How many target keywords sit on page one. Did the algorithm update cost us anything.

The Google Keyword Trends API answers the first set: 18 fields per term including the interest timeline, the regional breakdown and rising queries, comparing up to five terms in one call, at $0.0087 per row on the Apify Free plan. It reports no position and does not pretend to.

There is also no authoritative source for absolute monthly search volume. Keyword Planner shows wide buckets behind an ads account, Trends publishes only a relative index, and every “volume” number sold elsewhere is modelled — which is why two vendors quote figures differing by 3× for the same term. Our fuller treatment is in what a keyword search volume API can actually get you.

The order that avoids rework

  1. Measure demand first. Compare candidate terms, check trend direction and the regional split, drop the ones with no signal. A handful of API calls, not a subscription.
  2. Commit content or product to what survives. Those terms are the only ones worth ranking for.
  3. Then track rank, on that shortlist only. Rank tracking is priced per query, so a shortlist demand data already justified is also the cheapest one to monitor.

Teams that reverse steps one and three end up tracking hundreds of keywords, most of which were never worth a page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a keyword ranking API? An endpoint that issues a real search for a keyword and returns the ordered result list, so you can read off the position your URL holds. It is billed per query, and the position it returns is a snapshot: results are personalised, localised, and increasingly assembled per query.

How is keyword ranking priced? Per keyword × engine × location × device, at $0.20 to $15.00 per 1,000 queries across the eight vendors measured on 2026-09-04. Five of the eight require a monthly minimum of $40 to $125; three bill per query.

Can I check rankings for many keywords? Yes, and cost scales linearly. 500 keywords tracked daily is roughly 15,000 queries a month — $4.50 at Searlo’s rate, $30.01 through the AgentX Actor, $225.00 on SerpApi’s entry plan.

Does it support local keyword rankings? Location is a parameter on all of them, but the local business pack is a separate index. Use a places API for “which businesses rank in this city”, not a keyword rank tracker.

Can I see competitor keyword rankings? Yes — a rank API returns the whole result page, so any domain’s position is readable from the same response. You are not limited to your own URLs, and there is no extra charge for reading a competitor’s position out of a result you already paid for.
